If the circulating pump stays running after the boiler/solid fuel stove turns off it will cool down the cylinder.

Dripping hot water taps. Even a small drip.

    Leak in pipe work.

To test locate your cold feed going in to the cylinder and insure it is working in full.
    Heat your cylinder in full.
Turn off the cold feed and observe over a few hours.
If it stays warm you may have a pin hole in pipe work.
    Turn on the cold feed.
If it cools down you may have a pin hole in pipe work.

    Another test.
Before you go to bed tie up the ballcock in big attic tank.
Mark the height of the water.
When you get up in the morning check the marked height.
Insure no one has used water during the test period.
If water level has dropped you have water leaking somewhere. Leaking taps or pin hole in pipe work.

How is it coming off the top of the cylinder.

I'd the hot water vent heating up the pipe

yes it has a jacket on it and i dont think there is any as the preassure gauge is holding at 1 bar all the time
as for pipe its commin off the top of the tank which i think is the right way, also this eve i heard water moving around ie like as if there was an air pocket
    am confused

Where are you reading the 1 bar of pressure from, boiler filler valve?
Most likely this is the pressure in your heating system.

Did you carry out of the above tests as suggested in #2?

yes jim it is the boiler filler gauge, i have found cold water feed into the tank and all seems fine i did check the storage tank and its not filling so i would asume there is no leaks.

Is there a pipe thermostat wired through the boiler pump?

there is cyclinder stat wired to a myson valve which also turns off the boiler and pump when the stat get up to 60

I would check to make sure the cylinder is being heated to 60C in the first instance. Copper cylinders at best lose approx 30C over a 24 hour period so if your cylinder only has a lagging jacket, this loss could be greater.

Next check is to see of your washing machine and dish washer is connected to the hot. If so they can waste a lot of hot water unnecessarily. Turn off the hot valves to the appliances. If they require a feed, then link the cold feed to the hot. It will heat it's own water much more efficiently.

Failing that, you might have a small weep somewhere on the hot pipework and it is siphoning then heat from the cylinder. Turn off the cold feed to the cylinder and see if the temperature has the same drop as previous.

It has to! It should be just above the height of the cylinder. Follow the pipe from the very bottom of the cylinder upto the cwst.

there is no stop vavle in hotpress for the cold feed i hope there is 1 on the storage tank 1 question is the cold feed from the storage does that feed the hole house or should there be a seperate supply from storage tank to cyclinder

Perhaps you could post a photo of the hot press pipework.

The valve if turned off would only turn off the supply to your hw taps.

If you have no valve on the cold feed to cylinder, your did not carry out any of the tests ?
