I am a fan of this car, although I have never actually driven one, and was looking at the possibility of buying one. The small engine and lite body appeals to me and I like the look of them too.

They do seem quite overpriced though. Does anyone know if they'd be much cheaper in the UK and if it'd be worth importing one from there? I have no experience of the import process and real costs involved.

In all honesty. I'd be looking at a 2003 maybe, given my modest budget

Yea, cheapest I've seen was a 2003 on Carzone, up until yesterday, for €3900

Crazy money for a, soon to be, 10 year old car.

Soon to be a 10 year old car that will still be selling for high money ! you cant value all cars together based on year ! Roadsters are not 10 a penny, I bought one a while back, great car, saved a bunch on road tax and fuel, had a ball and i could still sell it for what i paid for it. Uk roadsters are not cheaper in the end, but you have a wider choice, but factor in exchange rate, travel and vrt and it will be more expensive than here.
