    Hi,
I noticed there is no raw support for the canon 5DIII on LR3,
    I remember something similar on LR1 or 2 ... with the 5D2 ,

I have the option to 1)use DNG to convert the raw files
    2)use LR4

I hear LR4 is quite slow, and I remember the converted TIFs
couldn't be edited as "deeply" as the RAWs ...

Have you considered CS5 . There are loads of decent copies out there to try before you buy.

It has moved to LR4.1 now and runs fine if you have enough RAM. I have 16GB on the desktop and there is no noticeable slowness really but on my laptop where I have 4GB it runs really slowly.

You could always download a trial and see how it goes for you and if you don't like it then stick with LR3

    LR4.2 now.

I can testify to the fact that it's a little bit slow on a laptop, but not frustratingly so. I'm on a Vaio F, with an i3 or i5 or something, and 4GB of RAM.

I did have the misfortune of using it on an older Dell with 2GB of RAM and it was an incredibly frustrating experience.

    Thanks all.

What about DNG conversion, does it lose quality or is it harder to edit the TIFFs as widely as the CR2 raws?

You likely won't lose image quality, but my understanding is that you will lose the fine-grained control over exposure, colour and white-balance that you would have in RAW.

A workaround might be to use Canon's DPP for editing those aspects of the RAW files (where necessary) and then export the finished edit as a TIFF.

DPP is actually a really good program for basic edits and lens corrections. But for anything more advanced you'll need to take it into Photoshop or Lightroom.

Thanks, I will use DPP and have downloaded LR4 trial - haven't tried it yet tho.

Is it expensive to buy ?

edit just checked - £94 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Photoshop-Lightroom-Mac-PC/dp/B007ELNDAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354701910&sr=8-1)

Not bad ... I expected it to be €300+

You missed out on the deal last week.

You could have upgraded for about €70
