Nearly sure our boiler is about to go, the last time it was serviced was told it is ancient! We use gas oil. How much would a standard boiler cost - about 12 radiators in the house. Plus we are after getting tank filled with gas oil so obviously want to stick to this type of fuel.

    Any help appreciated. ;)

If you are changing your boiler it must be of the HE condensing type and they must be run on kerosene, therefore you must swap over. It is a cleaner fuel and slightly cheaper. No good reason not to swap over other than you have to use up what you have.

Is it literally about to go any minute now or will it last a bit yet ? if it will last a bit yet try and use up the gas oil and get the new boiler installed when the gas oil is nearly gone. As said previously kerosene is pretty much the only option now.

Consideration could also be given to LPG

Not a fan personally, dont like how if you get the tank off the company they pretty much have ya under their control.

At least kerosene tanks are relatively cheap and you can ring round for prices, pay cash up front or standing order etc.

:D maybe its just me........... although i have never been asked to retrofit LPG to a house, people always tend to just go from gasoil to kerosene or diesel to kerosene.

    Benefits at the moment:

65 - 70 cents per litre fixed for 2 years
    First fill is free
    Tank rental/maintenance €100 per year
Tank level is monitored remotely via satellite and topped up when required with no upfront cost. Payment plan is determined by your annual usage so no big bills and can be changed monthly if usage changes.
    Nobody can steal your gas.
Modulating boiler, so instead of oil boiler firing at 25kw when only 6kw is required, i.e. system is hot or only one zone demanding, the gas boiler will go to lower flame to suit demand exactly. This will greatly improve the system efficiency.
