I want to transfer some music (albums) from my laptop to the Google Nexus.
I'm using Windows media player on the laptop, but the files don't transfer across to the Nexus. But the files do appear on the device when I connected it to the laptop again and checked the portable device in My computer??

Can anyone offer any help or advice? Thanks.

I've never tried it myself but Windows Media Player should work for it.

Is the music DRM free? If you bought it online from somewhere it might have restrictions on it. Failing that I'd try update WMP if it's a fairly old version.

    Hi, thanks for the suggestion.

Could you explain what you mean by DRM? Sorry, but this is'nt really my area of experitise:p
Most of the albums were just copied from CDs to my laptop.

Digital rights management. Restricts what you can do with the files. If copied from CD's they should be DRM free.

Are they mp3 files? Did you place them in the Music folder on the N7.

When you open Google Music is there any music there? Go into settings and refresh the music just in case...

Yes, they're mp3 files. And they are in the music folder.
But when I click the music app, it says I have no music on the device.

Could you tell me where I can do the update/refresh?
Not very familiar with this tablet yet, only have it a couple of days!
I checked settings but can't find anything related to music there. Thanks.

You refresh the music by going into Google Music, press Menu (the 3 ...'s in top right) then Settings and Refresh (they should normally show up anyway without refresh!).

If that doesn't work just reconnect the computer and tablet and pick (Windows 7) OPEN DEVICE TO VIEW FILES in the Auto Play pop up.

Delete the old music files that won't work, then copy and paste the new music folders/files into the Music folder on the tablet. If you get a warning saying the files won't play when copied just press yes to copy them anyway as they still work.

Hit the Help button in the menu to read the official instructions, you might be missing some simple step...

By "Google music", do you just mean the music app? I don't actually have anything called Google music, but there is a Play music app.

I checked the settings on this, but there's no refresh option, so no go there.

Tried deleting the files, and copying & pasting across to the music folder again, but still no joy. Again it says no music on the device:o

Thanks for your help anyway. Will have to do some searching for troubleshooting tips on this.

Yeah that's the one I mean alright. It's weird that it doesn't work, I just tried it on my n10 that I opened just now and it works fine.

Maybe try downloading a new sample mp3 file to see if that works.
