I found fruit to be a major help, when ever you have a major craving, have an apple!

I'm 1 week and 2 days off them. I hated my second and third day, it was horrible. Talk to friends about anything but smoking. it will take your mind off them. walk, cycle, watch movies, go to the cinema do something that stops you smoking.

I spent 6 hours in a bowling alley on my own playing just to keep myself indoors to stop myself smoking.

I've ordered an e-cig after using one for a day from a friend, and it was amazingly good help.

Best of luck, and for the love of god come back and post if your cracking up!

I found having a bottle of water on hand and taking a sip when you get a craving, this might sound crazy but you are supplementing your craving with something else, (you will pisss alot more) but this also is clearing out you system,

it is all about the mind, stop thinking about smokes, or when you do try to think about something else, (the ocean then have a sip of water)

the best of luck OP and keep er lit (no pun intended).

Try to hang in there for 5 days, then you will be complaining about the people who smoke around you,(this is all good) 10 days in you will be going up for election to stamp out the humans who smoke, adding to the woes of others,

but you will feel the benefit big time after 10 days.

This, for sure. Sipping water really helped me to stop (almost) a year ago.

wow! i've never stopped sucking menthos, menthol chewing gums, lollipops in my life in such a matter of days before.
i will say today is a bit easier but still hard.
i've a xmas party on friday, god knows how i'll get through that.
i tried a electronic cigarette in a shopping centre in naas 2 weeks ago and i wouldn't be happy again trying them as i nearly died from coughing after trying it.
anyway, menthos seem so far to be the best antidote to smoking.
    getting tired of chewing gums.
taking it hour by hour and day by day at the moment.
noticed a slight change in my taste of food as well but only slight
tongue looks cleaner and i don't wake up in the morning anymore with a dry mouth.
roll on willpower and thx for the help gang:)

I was the same as yourself, on day 1 I wasnt too bad, day 2 I was awful but then I managed to get through it and knew that if I could go one day there was no reason I couldnt go two, or to put it another way I thought well I have gone one day without one so I can go any day without one. Before I knew it I was off them a week, then two and by week five I didnt really think about them any more at all, its four and a half years later and I never think about them, cant believe I didnt give up sooner.

But by far and away the toughest days were day 2 and day 4 I think after that I was fine. The first time I drank was tough, but I just went to the local had a few and when the craving got really bad I just went home and woke up the next day knowing I could drink and not smoke.

one thing i will not do though is give out to people who smoke as i don't want to turn into one of those people who is hypocritical of other smokers.that is just being childish cause i can do it and they can't.I've seen people who have done this and they make me sick.

urge for cigarettes is getting less now.
strong salty taste though still in the mouth
notice my weight is gaining and i have been careful what i eat.
found apple drops great for sucking, so thx for that suggestion.
still using chewing gum as well.
    tomorrow is the big test.
xmas party, means get sloshed day.
    now there is a challenge
i've noticed clearer thoughts and more energy but fidgety hands.
need to be always doing something......
i've noticed mood swings the last 3 days with the missus as well.
    god help her!;)

As hard as it might be giving the xmas party a miss could be a good move, considering you are only starting, or just don't drink on the night,

I went off the drink when I went off the smokes for three months, then when I went back on the drink it was no problem,

while it might be a difficult thing to do it is only one night, what you are trying to achieve at the moment will impact the rest of your life (for the better),

while you might think it is not an easy thing to do, the next morning you will feel fantastic and just made it that much easier to keep off them.

I'm on the patches-day 12 today after 31 years :-) I'm feeling good, knit a lot to keep hands busy, sip plenty of water through the day, don't go out in tea/dinner break. Most galling thing is cost of patches is more than I spent on roll-ups.
I had a horrendous sore throat during the first week, now I have toothache along my bottom front teeth. Can't find out if this is normal. Anyone?

    Good luck on your attempt.

Does anyone else think that the 'you can quit' lot on Facebook sound like sanctamonius b@$[;?s

    Hey there

I quit 6 months ago after almost 20 years.

I didn't use any substitutes and found after the first few days the real cravings go. I just said to myself, I am quitting because if I don't odds are they will kill me - that has kept meoff them.

My life is simply too precious to gamble with.

Good luck with it - if I can do it, you can :)
