Advice needed - Payment Issue

    Hi All,

    Looking for some helpful advice if possible.

    I work for a large corporation. About two years they got rid of payroll here on site and outsourced it to a company in the UK. It's been a nightmare ever since.

    They screwed up our Christmas bonus mere months after taking over. Then proceeded to make a complete mess out of rectifying it.

    Since then, they have made similar errors over a two year period, and my pay has been inconsistant, basically- expect anything! could be up one week, down the next.

    I'm at my wits end at the minute, for the past month they've been overpaying me. I've been onto the revenue here, blue in the face talking to HR on site and absolutely sick to death of trying to contact the payroll company. My emails and calls all go ignored. I've luckily kept a log of all calls made and am building up quite a sizable amount of email correspondance.

    The thing is, I'm the only one working at home at the minute, the wifes out of work. I really don't need the stress of this now, there's nothing unique about my situation so It should be easy to be paid correctly.

    Has anyone been in similar circumstances? Can you offer any advice?

    Would it be worthwhile talkiing to a solicitor or is that ridiculous?

    Any feedback appreciated.

    Talking to a solicitor is ridiculous, what would you want him/her to do for you.

    Put the extra money in a separate bank account, assuming that you will pay it back one day.

    Other than that, you can now sit back and not stress about it. You've done your bit, and got evidence of it.

    Would be a different story if they were underpaying you, but they ain't.

    You've totally simplified my situation. My wages are erratic, I could be up for a few weeks down others. An extreme example would be this year we were left stranded with no pay for 3 weeks because of a cock up on their end. I live week to week at the minute, so I was out of pocket then, I had to borrow cash. You're forever chasing your tail then. The payroll company are incompetent, they don't seem to understand our tax system, so when they fuc^ up, they inevitably do so again when they try fix their mistakes.

    I've tonnes more examples but honestly am so exasperated I couldn't go through them all.

    If you've actual out of pocket expenses I'd write a letter to your employer requesting to be reimbursed. Otherwise I'd chill :pac:

    Its all well and good saying chill, but when you have responsibilities to pay then being short on your wages is a big deal. The bank won't chill, nor will the ESB or Gas company.

    OP I feel your pain - had a similar situation myself. I honestly believe that payroll and HR which is outsourced to the UK always ends up in a mess - they regularly seem to forget that WE ARE A DIFFERENT COUNTRY!!!! I lost count of the amount of times I had to point out to my last payroll and HR department that the rules are different in Ireland than the UK.

    Other than doing what you are doing (documenting everything and persisting), I don't know what other advice to give you. Perhaps contact NERA as it might fall under payment of wages act and your employer might have some responsibility for getting it sorted?
