Mechanical engineering work experience

Im currently in my first year of a mechanical engineering course in GMIT as a mature student and I was trying to think of a few places I could apply to, to get a couple of months of relevant experience during the summer.
Is this a feasible idea and would anyone have any input as to where would be good to apply?

I do hope you have received a PM or two but just in case you haven't.... the likes of Boston Scientific or Medtronic might be an option. Realistically they are unlikely to be able to offer you an engineering role as they'd take in a good lash of 3rd years every year and keep them on for the summer beyond their placements but it might be possible to get a temporary role as a product builder which would be beneficial as many mech engineers go on to be manufacturing or quality engineers in the likes of those sites and some hands on experience is invaluable :)

Alternatively you could compile a list of smaller companies, the likes of Outsource Technical Concepts for example and try them :)

Thanks for your reply, this is actually the only one I got.

I was going to apply to a couple of the bigger companies like Boston scientific anyway, I just didn't know who the smaller companies that I should be applying are. I'll definitely look the one you mentioned.

I'm aware that most of the available places will be going to 3rd year placement students but I thought it was worth a try anyway
