Work relocation

    Hi, I need some advise.

    My job is moving from the south suburbs to the city centre in the new year, my commute will increase to 2 hours each way from 45 mins each way.

    The company has offered no flexibility, I start work at 8am.

    Am I entitled to any relocation compensation/support? I have no relocation/flexibility clause in my contract.

    Thank you

    :confused::confused:

    That's a tough one - we moved from Ballsbridge to Citywest a few years ago, and nobody got a cent in expenses, despite some people actually moving house. If you refuse, you *might* be entitled to redundancy, but I'm guessing that's not much good to you.

    Does anything here help?

    My understanding from going through this 10 years ago is that if they are moving your place of work more than 15 miles then you have a case for redundancy.
    If it is less than 15 miles then you do not have a case for redundancy.
    Either way they are not obliged to offer anything else in terms of flexibility or compensation

    Is this with public or private transport? Is there any chance you can drive to a train station, to help cut the overall travel time?

    Check your contract. If you have a clause in there that permits your employer to relocate their offices and your normal place of work within Dublin or the Greater Dublin Area then you are quite likely out of luck.

    I always make sure that the actual address is in my contracts and that these clauses are removed if they are part of the contract.
