Hi, If i had a medical issue and my GP knew about this and recorded it in my medical history.
If i were to require a medical report or something like that for a job, can i request certain ailments be left out? assuming it poses no danger to anyone including myself?

i realise it can be morally bad and i do not need to be reminded of that. im more worried about a "stigma" attached to something rather than anything that would affect my ability to work. i am just wondering if there are legal aspects that override doctor-patient confidentiality

Will affect your ability to do your work, if not, I don't think they need to know.

Basically you would be asked to sign a release form by your employer. You would then go to the doctor and tell him not to release the information you have just told them they could access and i presume keep this fact hidden from them.

Do you really need to ask?

Your doctor won't lie, or write a misleading report. He won't write a report at all unless you authorise him to, but you instruct him not to disclose (say) that you are HIV-positive, and the employer's medical report form includes the questions like "is the patient HIV positive?" or "does the patient have any sexually-transmissible condition?", the doctor won't write "no"; he'll either write "my patient does not consent to my answering this question" or he'll simply leave the answer blank. Either way, your prospective employer will put two and two together without too much difficulty.
