Hyundai IX20 Handbrake Recall

Recall Summary
Hyundai IX20 handbrake may fail.

Recall Issue
Hyundai has found that corrosion of the rear callipers on some IX20s can result in the handbrake failing when parked on a hill.
Hyundai is recalling the affected IX20s to clean the axle and housing, fit new seals, or if necessary, replace the rear callipers.

Hyundai IX20s Affected By This Recall
There are 4,029 Hyundai IX20s affected by this recall. They were built between October 2010 and April 2012. They have VINs in the range - TMAPU81DLBJ000154 to TMAPU81DBCJ076352.

What Should Hyundai IX20 Owners Do?
If you have, or believe you may have, one of the affected Hyundai IX20s then please contact your local dealer.

FIL had his car's rear callipers replaced by Hyundai last week as a preventative measure.

That's what makes me wonder. How did your FIL got informed of the recall?

I've bought it SH off the dealer with 5K kms on, my name's on the warranty plus AA membership, I'm already after servicing the car in my name and if it wasn't the forum I wouldn't have the clue of the recall. Had the dealer called him?

He wasn't informed. His car was due it's first service and it was during this that they mentioned that they were going to replace the rear callipers too.

The wife was contacted about hers by the dealer last month, by phone.

Appointment made for that Friday and job done that day.

Seemed pretty painless, and got free parking for a day

It's such a recent car that I doubt Hyundai will have difficulty contacting owners.

All I Know is my car is working perfect the only problem now is keeping it I had a crash off my bike and fractured my hip and money wise I will have to sell it :mad::mad::mad: because it is a gem of a car .

Lodged a query with Hyundai on the nature they are contacting IX20 owners and here's the response I've got of Susan:

Good Morning

Can I please take this opportunity to thank you for your inquiry.
Can I also please assure you that in Ireland this is not a safety recall, despite what can be found on the internet, the official information from Hyundai Motor Company is that the Technical Service Bulletin is classed as a service action.
This means that the callipers are inspected when the vehicle enters a Hyundai workshop for any reason.
