From www.welfare.ie....seems we have to wait until Tuesday 1st Jan eventhough I don't know how they are crediting accounts on a bank holiday, it can go in on Monday 31st as it's a banking day but Tues is not??. Last year the childrens allowence was in the bank on the Sat & any bank holidays that fell this year the payment was always in the bank on the Saturday.

    Copied below from the website:

Payment directly to an account in a financial institution – (Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT))
    Weekly Payments

Customers paid weekly will receive their normal payment(s) and an advance payment during the week beginning Monday 10 December, 2012. The advance payment will be the payment(s) due in the week beginning Monday 17 December 2012 (excluding Carers Benefit, Disablement Benefit, Maternity Benefit and Health & Safety Benefit Payments).

Payments for Maternity Benefit and Health & Safety Benefit due Thursday 20 December 2012 will be paid on the Monday 17 December 2012.

All payments due the week commencing 24 December 2012 will be paid on your normal payment day the week commencing 17 December 2012.

Payments due on Monday 31 December 2012 for Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit, Illness Benefit, Partial Capacity Benefit and Supplementary Welfare Allowance will be paid on Friday 21 December 2012.

Payments due on Tuesday 1 January 2013 for Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit, Illness Benefit, Partial Capacity Benefit and Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance will be paid on Monday 31 December 2012.

Payments for Child Benefit and Household Benefit due on Tuesday 1 January 2013 will be paid on Tuesday 1 January 2013.

Totally correct!, more lies from Joan Burton & Co to take as much as they can off us!. So many were sure it was in the bank today & have been left disappointed. Bet their buddies pension payments were on time!!

Just had a look back at last year, it was in the bank on Sat 31st December to cover Tues 2nd Jan & the bank holiday, and in August this year it was in the bank on the Sat to cover the bank holiday so yes they have done this on purpose!

    Smart bastards..

Im so annoyed I was relying on it coming in early :(

There's a bank roll on Monday night as Monday is a normal working day so payments will be in as normal on Tuesday, as it says on welfare.ie

Nothing crafty. The Bank Holiday falls on Monday usually so it comes in on Fridays bank roll, which means it's in on the Saturday. But because they are working Monday they can have it in as normal on the Tuesday.

Next year, since New Years Day is a Wednesday it won't be in until Tuesday the 7th of Jan.

Www.welfare.ie states the payment day is Tuesday, today is Monday. You should not be expecting it in your bank account today, it will be there tomorrow as stated.

The payment is for January 2013, it would be at the new rate even if they paid it last week.

If ever there is a bank holiday the payments have always gone into the bank for the previous Saturday. This has been happening for a few years now and it was not the case this time round. Times are tough and people are more dependent on their payments, especially at this time of year. There should have been some notice put out for people that get payments through there bank account.

Weird that's it's not paid as it usually would be, but half of you are implying that you were relying on it for some sort of new year celebration.

It's due in on Tuesday. If its not there Tuesday, complain on Wednesday.

It's supposed to go towards looking after and supporting your kids, not the owner of your local off -licence.

Yes but that's when the Bank Holiday is on a Monday, not a Tuesday. It's an unusual one this year but had the Bank Holiday been on the Monday it would have been paid on the Saturday as normal.

There was notice put out. There's a big sticky at the top of this forum with a link to the Christmas payment arrangements posted on Welfare.ie. There was plenty of notice as it was made available early December.

Even tho what you are saying is clear, people will still give out about it not coming in early.

Tuesday is a bank holiday not Monday, i.e the banks are open today you can go in an do any business you like in there today. So your money should be in as normal tomorrow, if its not then complain.

If people are relying on a payment to come in early then they are very foolish, as you can never rely on that method to ensure you have money on time.

I dont think people were wanting to have parties! i think its because if you are on social welfare it has been a week with out any paayment.

I no we got a double week but i spent that on christmas toys for my kids, which i would say most people did. So now they might not get paid till wednesday or thursday, i was ok as my partner got a payment today and its all gone on food and coal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

I'm on social welfare and the double week was saved for Christmas week because I knew there'd be no payment then. It's not that hard to save during the year to buy presents for your kids. You didn't go a week without payment, you got paid for it and spent it in advance.

I'm in the same boat. Saved my double payment to get me through the last week. I don't have kids, but I do buy presents for my god kids, and other people in my life and had to save through out the year for all of them.

Also just to the post above, if your partner got a payment today, did you not receive one today. Because all the couples I know get there payments the one day, seeing as they would be claiming as a couple, like there are only two options for couples who are claiming, and one is that they have a joint claim, where one individual claims for the other, and the other is two individuals claim separate but as a means assessed couple.

No i'm on btea the social welfare office preferred us to have separate claims but we both get a reduced rate we have 3 children he gets 201 and i get 231 an increase for btea

I no it is easier to get one payment when were both on jsa as it saves two having to go to the post office but that's the way they want it. Dont mind at all what else would i be doing :(

    I get paid thursday's

They won't pay it into bank accounts till tomarrow as the cuts come into being 1st January.

The cuts came into effect on 1st Jan last year and we were still paid on the Saturday because of the bank holiday at the lower rate. It's not because of the cuts, it's just because the bank holiday fell on a Tuesday.

It's against the law for them to touch our money earlier and they are a lot of robbing so and so,s, the banks and post offices had a good break last week, they weren't open on last Thursday and it wasn't a bank holiday, put many of us out.

As previously stated, the CA is paid in advance, the payment due tomorrow is for January, when the cut begins. I'm due back dated CA in the next payment and the backdated amount is at the old rate, even though it'll be paid in January.

Social Welfare offices around the country were closed on 25th and 26th December only. They were back open at 9:30am on 27th.

Mod note: this thread is going nowhere. The Christmas Arrangements have been clearly published on www.welfare.ie. this thread is achieving nothing and a lot of posts are skating a very thin line as being against the charter.
As stated by numerous posters, Child Benefit will be paid tomorrow.
    Thread locked.
