Hi. I'm trying to get my fitness level back up after being out for a while (2 years night studs and a new family left me little time for exercise!!). I'm using the couch to 5k programme and on week 6 - doing everything on a treadmill at the moment.

The problem is my knee - I had a torn meniscus removed a few years ago and the running is starting to become uncomfortable on that knee. Is there anything that I can do? I have a decent pair of Nike Air runners.

I have a Vulkan neoprene support like this one but I've been told that this might do more harm than good. Is that true??

Any advice greatly appreciated. My upper leg muscles are pretty poor so I was thinking that I should be doing some non-impact squats\thrusts to help build these up. Also, maybe some time on a bike might help.

    Thanks!!

Try it and see if it helps, but imo it'll be hard for anyone here to diagnose or prescribe a working solution. You'll get the best benefit from a few sessions with a physio.

Get rid of the Nike Air for starters.

You should go with a shoe with a very decent level of support with gel rather than air in it to stop the shock from your foot impact travelling up to your knee.

We do not give out medical advice. Injuries may have common symptoms but are unique to the individual - just because you were able to keep training with X injury or were out for months because of Y doesn't mean that the same will apply to someone else. Bad advice given here and followed through could aggravate an injury and prevent an athlete making a full recovery in as rapid a time as possible. This restriction is Boards-wide and purposely heavy-handed. So don't feel offended if your thread about a sprained ankle (which you may deem "non-medical") gets locked.
