    Hi All,

I've to replace a very old clay u-bend which is badly damaged and breaking up. I need to join the new 4 inch plastic u-bend onto the old 4 inch clay pipe.

I assume I can just use a coupler like this:-

Do I put any particular sealer on the adapter before slotting it inside the 4inch clay pipe?

    Thanks,
    DD

That fitting mounts over the clay pipe and you need to pack it with sand cement, there are rubber connectors which are easier to use, ring Drainage systems in Raheney and they will kit you out with an easier solution :)

The fitting is fine. You will need the rubber bung. I have seen this been packed out with silicone as well. Its all down to you

Hi guys, thanks for the feed back. I'll pick up one of them fittings anyway, I'll see if there's a rubber bung/doughnut to go in-between it and the outer of the clay pipe.

It may yet be sillicone, but would rather use the rubber seal if its available.

    Thanks again for the advise.

I'm actually now thinking of just using a rubber coupler to join up the two:-

Is there any issues with using these long term? they seem to be recommended quite a few places on the internet.

I have used these a couple of times over the past 10 years and so far no problems. Just try to make sure both ends are as clean as possible.
