DOE on vw type 2 westfalia???

    Hi to all,

Went to the motor tax office this morning to tax vw type 2 westfalia, and was told that I would have to a DOE cert. before they would tax it.
I thought that a vintage vehicle would be DOE exempt. They maintain all campers have to have a DOE cert now, regardless of age.
I didn't think that rule applied to a 74 westfalia.
This is my first time to tax this camper. Bought the camper in March 2011, then went about restoring it. I insured it on my beetle renewal in October 2012 for an extra 50 euros. If I do decide to DOE it, then I'm leaving myself open to the camper rate of 88 euros, when as a vintage vehicle the cost would be 57 euros or there abouts.
Tried ringing shannon at 061 365 000 and 1890 411 412, but turns out to be the same contact, and couldn't get to talk to someone about the issue. No joy there.
I'm assuming because all things are done through computers now, there are some gaps left out on their systems, and this being one of them.
Or is it the case that because this is the first time to tax it under my name, that this rule applies. To be honest I'm not sure.
Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.
    John.:confused::confused::confused:

If it's classed as a camper it needs a DOE. :)

Not sure if you'll be paying the €52 vintage tax or the €88 camper tax though.

I suppose if it's a camper you need doe and camper Tax, If you put it through as vintage then you comply with that , you probably can choose... But not mix and match...! Not sure what hoops you have to go through to vintage register...

    Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I didn't think this would apply to a vintage vehicle. My daily runner, a 74 beetle never needed a nct cert. Has this new rule been brought in for vintages campers as well?
Didn't see any info on this rule anywhere.
    Thanks for the info.

I'm only going by what I'v heard, Once it's classed as a camper it needs DOE.

A vintage car doesn't need an NCT. (A car registered after the 1/1/1980 needs NCT)

Vintage Tax is 30 year rolling to the date of first registration.

Just got in touch with the tax office tullamore at 3.30. Talking to a nice girl called michele.
I made her aware of the situation, and she went off to check. When she got back she told me that the camper was exempt from doe. She went onto explain, that some vehicles fall through the cracks or are not allocated on the system. She apologised for the hassle it was causing me, and said if could into the office tomorrow it would be sorted out. She also said, I was to bring in my logbook and that I would be issued with a "vintage" logbook with camper stamped onto it.
This would be entered onto the system under VINTAGE, and in the future I could tax it online without any problem.
So, its been a good day getting that sorted out. Thanks a million for all your help in clearing up this matter once and for all.
Popping into the tax office tomorrow, so I'll let you all know how I get.

    Thanks.

Just been told the first reg. in other words the date of manufacture where ever is the info they take into consideration. Once reg. as vintage the tax cost will be 52 euros once it is 30yrs or more.
    Don't throw away the classic.
