Why do they pay 1100 to have a house cleaned . surely they could shop around . Or if really that disturbed stop in one night and give it a quick scrub .
I think this is just publicity before the budget probably organised by the unions

Don't think the svp are in a Union, they are mostly volunteers.

Actually the decorations often get stolen so that's why they may need to get new ones every year. My mam worked in the out patients department of a Dublin hospital & often told us how small trees & decorations would be gone by the end of a day. The staff sometimes brought in bits & pieces but 9 times out of 10 they'd be gone before Christmas Eve.

That said, sending a begging letter to the SVP for it is a bit much. Although does show the desperation of the front line staff of the HSE.

I don't know it appears to me that this is a case of social workers avocating on a clients behalf to SVP, not on behalf of the HSE. The former would be kind of standard enough I imagine. There is a big difference between the two. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see numerous social workers being thick enough to ask SVP on behalf of the HSE.

Sure in one rehab I used to work in we would regularily get offered donations which always had to be refused because it was a HSE facility.

Something is not right here, it just does not make sense.

This normally happens when the 'client' asks for the HSE to support their request for help. It has always went on and although it will have increased in incidence, it's nothing new. Social workers at al have always acted as a bridge between the needy and charitable organisations. I would imagine the HSE are having a canary at such requests being put in writing!!

Its just so strange that this comes to light a few days before the budget

landlords using HSE to make requests to SVP for rent, at least that is some of what appears to be going on

As has been said its an advocacy piece carried out by SWs. I'm a social care worker and do this quite often for clients to SVP and other organisations. Very standard practice

    It's a nothing story

Havn't read the link, but isn't it more the SW asking on behave of their client rather then them/the HSE asking directly. I know the HSE have a huge overspend, but surely they're not that desperate.

    Scare mongering by the Independent.

I have long said it that the layers of management in the Public Service will bring this country to it's knees.
