Indeed, only I find that a natural youghert mixed with spoonful of Kaolin powder does the same trick and is much cheaper ;)

Once I tried a box of additive that was supposed to prevent scour in sucks, got it from one of the lads in vans selling such crap... Seriously all 8 calves started scouring after I started it... dumped it soon after!!

make sure calf gets adequate colostrum... that way his immune system will be better and there should be little or no scours, i dont believe in alot of these products, keep the housing right, disenfect the navel, make sure cow gets pre calving minerals and you should be sorted

Kaolin is a binder, up to 90% of your tablets for scour is kaolin.
I get it in a local chemists who does some vetinary stuff. Ya know the sort of place.

Whelan is right on the colostrum, if a calf gets plenty it's much less likely to have scour problems. After that care with feeds and plenty of dry bedding goes a long way.

You should also watch out for nutritional scour which usually rectified itself without intervention.

We found that when plenty of fresh hay and water is available from the beginning calves have less scour. Good fresh hay from a sunny summer, not 2012 stuff !, the sort of stuff that smells like the summer.

Me elderly neighbour uses a teaspoon of jeyes fluid with a drop of water.reckons he had a calf stretched out with scour one time and this saved him:eek: Wonder what the inside of his belly is like.I told a vet and he told me tell him to give two teaspoons next time:D
