At present I'm with UPC but I'm seriously thinking of installing a satellite system. My question is will my existing dvd recorders be compatible with satellite.

What do your existing DVD recorders do that you want them to keep doing?

If they just record whatever is on a Scart or HDMI input then it should be fine.

As said you would first need to set the satellite receiver to the correct channel then record using the DVD recorder.

If you go for a FreeSAT PVR with hard drive then you can record to the hard disk and series link. It all works automatically without needing to fiddle around. Remember on free satellite you cannot get the Irish channels. You need an aerial and a Saorview box to get the Irish channels.

I will admit I'm an TV addict and have 3 recorders. I want to be able to record programs as there are times that they overlap. I was hoping I won't have to buy more than one receiver with record facility attached as I may have to get receivers for multi-room viewing.

A FreeSAT PVR will allow recording of 2 satellite channels at the same time. It will automatically change channels.

The new Irish PVR to be launched soon will have 2 tuners allowing recording of two Irish channels at a time and series linking.

If recording is very important to you I would recommend a genuine FreeSAT PVR and the soon to be released Saorview PVR. The Freesat is 250 odd, and the Saorview will be 230.

Will they allow me to watch another channel while recording the 2 channels

The new PVR is not out yet. It may allow that feature.

So the new PVR will allow recording but back to original question will I still be able to use dvd recorders with satellite.

As said, you will only be able to record the channel the satellite receiver is set to.

You would need a satellite receiver with inbuilt recording for anything else.
