    Hi,
The electric shift on my honda foreman is now now working properly,
I wonder can this be disconnected completely and made to work manually by fitting or welding a pedal on and if so is it a success.

    Thanks

Mine did the same and all that was wrong was battery!

u dont need to disconnect it, just use the foot pedal. Is there a flashing light on the dash?count the flashes to get a code, it might just be a bad connection or else the angle sensor(they can give problems) but arent too expensive to buy.

There is a steel stud 4" long coming out on bottom l/h side, this is the manual lever but you need some sort of pedal attached to use it and i didnt think you could use the manual shift and electric shift together.
Anyway only can get first gear and reverse on my electric shift at present

does it not need calibrating sometimes and as before a v good battery, just bought a 350es and didnt hear any big problems of the e shift.

Kincaid...The following should solve your problem and save you a lot of hassle.

The Electric Shift on the older Honda's are bad.. end of... No butts etc. they just are.. accept it...
The Angle sensor located at the front of the engine is the general cause... €80 a go.. But after changing mine twice... I had to go further..

If the Battery is not fully charged, the electric shift wont work quick enough and will wear the clutch unit as it sits "between gears"
So if you have an old battery.. if your alternator is not working properly... if your regulator is not working properly... these all cause problems as your Battery will not be right...
If not that its the switch itself... which also can be common..
AKA FAR TO MANY POSSIBILITIES OF WHICH I CHANGED ALL!!!

In the end.. You end up converting to a manual and you never look back!

Now in your "tool kit", your ES Honda came with and Emergency Manual Gear lever among other things... looks like a ring spanner with a 90 degree bend in the opposite end (Galvanised)... sits upright for your hand to change the gear not your foot...
DO NOT WELD THIS TO THE SHAFT AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR ENGINE OR YOU WILL MELT THE SEALS INTERNALLY..

    THE SOLUTION...
Which dealers will do for circa €190 (What I paid)...split the engine... remove the stubby Hex-Shaped shaft (Looks like an Alan Key sticking out as you described) on which the emergency lever slips over, and swap it for the Manual 21ish spline shaft... also needs a shorter shaft inside (Cant remember why)... Parts were €50 max... Labour was the pricey bit as your looking 2 hours to get in and 1.5 hours to get out....
Pop all back together and fit the correct manual gear change lever and you never look back...
You dont need to disconnect the ES but its recommended for the sake of 20 seconds.. ECU doesnt need the conflicting information or possibility of both being used at once...
I have my '02 Honda with circa 5000 hours and it has never skipped a beat.. Few Ball Joints etc go... tie rod ends.. all consumable parts which naturally go due to wear and tear.. But the Manual Engine is hassle free... Touch Wood...
Service it for the sake of €40 a year and keep it sufficiently clean so as to avoid over heating.. and there is little left to go wrong.

    Hope this helps...

    Any Problems... Shout..

We have about 8 Honda's in our "Group", from the Big Red 300 to the new 500 so we have come across most snags and found the cheapest ways to sort everything..
Especially cracked clocks/dash's... Dealers here want up to €800 for new ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    We replace them for €80..
