I was involved in a bit of an accidential situation and I ended up in the station but it did not go to court. I wonder will any details of this show up in a garda vetting form or a backround check?

    Signed an adult caution ?

Then yes it will show up on a garda vetting check.

    Disclose it on your application.

(presume its for minor public order stuff - not a very big deal - bigger deal if you don't disclose it).

If you didn't sign an adult caution, i.e. were simply eh 'brought' (arrested...) to the station and then released without charge then you're ok assuming there is nothing pending in relation to it.

OK so No I didnt sign anything and I was not arrested and there is nothing pending in relation to it. Am I ok?
I was brought to the station by way of "coming down for a chat" and I agreed.

Can't really say without knowing what the chat was about and how it ended up to be honest - I'm not asking you to post details in response.

Make a Data Protection Request for all records the Gardai have of you in the town you live in and where you work or go to college and specify the situation you refer to. Although you are meant to sign a Garda Caution accepting your guilt, I have found that I was cautioned even though I didn't sign or accept anything.

He meant garda files (the PULSE system that is). We can say with confidence that private sector employers don't (or shouldn't) have access but they do of course have access to the outcome of garda vetting applications made by their employees or prospective employees.

There's a huge level of uncertainty as to the nature of disclosures made on foot of application for garda vetting. Everyone's clear that it will refer to convictions or pending prosecutions. No one is clear as regards matters that do not result in convictions but are recorded.

As a curve ball suggestion, would you remember the name of the Garda you were dealing with ? It all seems to have ended fairly amicably without formal process. You could consider popping down to the station and asking to have a chat with him/her. Explain you're applying for a job and ask whether this is something you should disclose on the vetting form etc.

Even if you don't remember the name go down to the local station and see if they'll talk to you about it anyway. You might be surprised at how productive a face to face chat can be about this type of thing.
