Does anyone know what time you would have to get in to the college by to be guaranteed a seat in the reading room? Thanks.

The library generally opens up around 8:30, the Reading Room opens at 7am, I'm unsure with regards to the I.T. building, but I do know that Cairnes' "official" opening time is around about 8 or just after, but really you can pop in around 7 as they have the cleaners in at that time in the morning and they generally just leave all the doors unlocked from then onwards.

If you're asking for the time in which the college as a whole generally opens... Errr, I'm don't really know. :o

I've heard from people last week that you'd want to be there half an hour before it opens to get a seat...so far too early

I think the reading room actually opens at 6am now, and it's pretty full by 7. I used to be able to get a seat in there at around half 8 but there's no chance of that now.

It was open at 6.53 today, and was full before 7. I got here at 6.20 and there were people waiting.

That's crazy early! Its a pity that there isn't somewhere else open late if you need to study late on, especially coming up to exams

Entering the college premises before 8am is absolutely ridiculous.

You's swear the reading rooms filled one with knowledge as soon as they stepped into it! :pac:

I suppose some people are determined to find a spot in college where they can leave their stuff without it being disturbed! :p

Not at this time of year..

Although if you go in around 9.10 or 2.10 you might get a seat with people leaving for exams.

I was in the library yesterday and a load of people left for exams at around 2:10 and they all just left their laptops and books on their desk.

If they haven't left a note saying what time they left (and it was less than 30 mins ago) you are free to move their stuff out of the way and sit down. If you're not comfortable doing this, grow a pair.

Or get a steward. People are relying on others not being comfortable to move stuff to secure a seat all day and only use it for a couple hours.

Once people realise that their stuff will be moved they won't leave it there.

There was a huge queue of people outside the library for opening at 8.30. Reading room is crazy.

So just to clarify what time does the reading room open at, and what time would I need to be there at to get a seat?

I've actually never set foot in the place however I've a 9:30 exam tomorrow morning, so I think it the only place on campus to get a couple of hours study in at that time of the morning.

I dont have my Id card enabled for access to the reading room either, would that be a problem getting in or out of the place?

By the looks of things it opens shortly before 7, maybe 10 to, and will be full around the hour mark so you will have to be there very early:D This year you didn't need to get the card activated every student's card was automatically activated upon registration. Good luck with the exam!

When you say full at the hour mark do you mean 7 or 8.

If its 7 you'd wont to be there queuing 6:30ish? Bloody early!

7 unfortunately. I don't know what time a queue starts forming at; I suppose the earlier you get there the better you don't want to be trying to waste an hour around the college when everywhere else is closed!!

I was passing by Uni on my way to work at 6:30am this morning and there was people heading into the Reading Room. I never used the Reading Room in my 3 years in Uni, there are loads of empty classrooms on campus where u can get a seat later in the day!

Do you think you would get a seat if you were at the reading room for 7 this Sunday or would you need to be there before?
