Often wonder why Judges have not apparently got the option of detaining people in their own homes....( long term ie months / years)

I have in mind elderly people on medication for example, who would gain little by being detained in a state prison.....just as well have them detained in their own homes with some skype arrangement or GPS attachment to periodically monitor their movements.....( visits to their doctor allowed when ever required, once advised )

Save the state thousands and still deprive the guilty of their liberty....

Again this option to be used when deemed the guilty person is suitable for house arrest....

NB, I dont have in mind stabbers, killers, drug dealers, rapists , Bankers etc..or the usual thug....!

If the person is suitable for house arrest they probably don;t need to be in prison in the first place.

Rather than monitoring them in their own home why not expand community service?
