The sound is impacted, it stops and starts - its does it every 40 - 50 seconds - VERY annoying when watching something.... some times i doesn't happen but i have yet to watch a program the whole wa through with out it hapening...

    any ideas?

Or could it simply just be a fault

Do you mean you have the problem with RTE One only and RTE Two/TV3/TG4 never have this problem?

Normally any break up on any channel is usually due to a weak signal. Possibly if the signal is increased all problems would go away.

However if it is only one channel there is a small chance that it was manually tuned incorrectly and that the RTE1 channel may be being received from another weaker transmitter. Try a full factory reset and install and see does the problem go away.

However the problem is probably a weak signal/aerial fault. Ideally test the box in a neighbours house, then solve the aerial problem. A professionally installed aerial would not do this.
