does anyone know a doctor they would recommend who is familiar with martial arts - most doctors seem to take a fairly dim view of martial arts if you ever go to them with an injury

For most of the common injuries, you might be better off seeing a physiotherapist directly.

Its been my experience that most won't see you without a doctors referral.

I've never been to a doctor who took a dim view of martial arts.

I'm guessing you have an injury?.. In which case I'd concur with Doug, a physio is your best bet and if you can find one who'll take you on without a doctor's referral then you're quids in.

A physio in a hospital will prob need a doctors referral, but not a private physio. Direct clients make up the bulk of their clients I'd imagine.

Cool I must check that out because I'm retiring from the defence forces shortly and it would save a lot of trouble if I can find a good physio who'll take me without a doc's referral.

I wonder how that would work with MRI scans.. Last time I had one done on my ankle (2009) my physio had to send me back to the doc for a referral to Northwood.

Never needed a referral to go to a physio. However, you always need a referral for an MRI scan.
