The last few years they have broadcast it about a week before Christmas.

It was announced as part of RTE's Christmas schedule yesterday but they didn't give a transmission date.

Sports fans will be spoiled for choice as RTÉ brings a variety of great sports documentaries and live coverage (Jimmy's Winnin' Matches; When Ali Came To Ireland; The RTÉ Sports Awards; Rory McIlroy:The Interview; First; Euro 2012: The Score; Racing From Leopardstown; RaboDirect PRO12 and Premier Soccer Saturday.

What's the point? We all know who'll win!

(Although it's a good thing that we don't follow the British example and call it the Sports 'Personality' award - she hasn't got one!)

    Why so harsh..?

Winning an Olympic gold is personality enough for me.

Harsh? That's not harsh at all!

Don't get me wrong, I admire the girl's sporting achievement greatly. But I stand over my contention that she's got no personality.

Petty to say the least, and factually wrong as it turns out.

Katie has a lovely, humble personality. No ego or arrogance.

    A genuinely nice person...

My opinion is different to yours, then. (And a few others, too, it seems!)

I can't see anyone except Katie Taylor winning the main award. You can't do much more than win every fight and the Olympic Gold. There are a good mix of Sports represented, a lot of the others would have had a great chance in another year.

I've just noticed Rob Kearney's name on the list. I'm little surprised by that.

He's been an excellent player. Would his performances in 2012 warrent getting on the list? I understand a Leinster Rugby player should be included after another Heino Cup for but why not Sexton..?

No surprise that Katie Taylor won and no surprise that RTE made a balls of the show!

RTE really made a show of it. Katie taylor must be nearly sick of the accolades at this stage
