Just wondering has anyone any experience with operating a Rallye aircraft, what is performance like? I know most of them are old machines now,do they give much problems?

There are many of us who will only have fond memories of the Rallye. A beautiful forgiving machine with great short field and slow speed performance. A beaut to fly and nothing more priceless than those slats giving your poor passenger a heart attack. My first flying lesson in 1995 was in a Rallye. It was 10 years before I flew one again. I have about 50 hours in the log book in a Rallye, about 3500 in a 737. Give me a Rallye any time.

From a performance point of view, I flew a Rallye 100 from a 350m strip. No problem.

From a maintenance point of view, beware the tin worm. Corrosion is a major problem.

The Rallye was also license built in Poland as the PZL Koliber so there are some pretty fresh "Rallyes" about. I've some time in Rallyes too and I much prefered them to the Cessna 150/152. There's a 235bhp version available too...I'd say that one is fun. :)

I fly a rallye 150GT from newcastle airfield, good forgiving machine only gripe I have with it is I feel it is a little slow in the cruise 85-90kt

As said above the slats forget about the passengers the first time I flew it and the slats popped out I almost went through the canopy the fright i got.

here is a link to the site of the rallye I fly

Great fun to fly, but, for the horsepower, as slow as glacial drift. Don't get tempted to try the very small fields until you have some time under your belt.

Great airplane but all of the Rallyes wre slow for the power. I did reckon though that you could land a C150 shorter than a Rallye, full flaps and 60MPH approach.

Pity PZL stopped building them. If they were to do the 180 with the Lycoming 390, MT prop, tailwheel undercarriage, manual flaps and a stick, I reckon it would be the best Rallye ever, better even than the Franklin engined Minerva 220.

    Hi there
All Rallyes were built from Day 1 with the ability to adapt to tailwheel undercarriage. It says so in the maintenance manual. The only Rallyes that were deliberately built as tailwheelers were the "Agricole" agricultural-spraying models, fitted with spray bars and a hopper and one/two seats.
@Joe90, 60 mph is even too fast for a proper short-field landing in a 150. Try bringing it back to 55 mph, same as a Rallye.

I've stopped a 150 in sub 75m on tarmac, however in a take off from grass the Rallye has the edge on most machines it's size.
