Hi all I am driving a Toyota Rav4 and thinking of trading for an IX35 new. My Rav is a 2Litre petrol, and IX35 is a 1.7 diesel. The Hyundai is nippy to drive, so is my Rav4. The Hyundai is streets ahead of the Rav4 gadget wise, with a five year warranty, to Toyotas 3 year warranty. Never mind the tradein price, just on motors what would other posters do?.

Keep the rav4 if its working well and not giving you any bother

My parents bought a new ix-35 in 2010. It was a nice car except it was unbelievably hard on diesel 35mpg. Ours was a 2 litre 140bhp. I heard the 1.7 diesels are not much more efficient and they don't have cruise control. The 2 litre was seriously powerful and nice to drive but we couldn't keep diesel in it and sold it after a year. Tbh if you like the rav4 and it isn't causing trouble it might just be worth keeping as dgt said.

Hi the IX35 executive has cruise control, but I am not sure what kind of mileage it does. I am trading my Rav but I am undecided on what to buy. Thanks for your replies.

When the 1.7 first came out it didn't have cruise control but as you said it has it now. The 1.7 would be better on diesel than the 2.0 coming from a 2.0 petrol tab 4 I'm sure you would find it good on diesel. As I said we had one and they are a nice SUV we had no trouble with ours anyway

Look at the Kia sportage too, personally I think its more attractive than the Hyundai.

The current rav4 was outdated 4 years ago

New RAV4 due sometime in 2013 if that makes a difference.

I think the ix35 is getting equipment upgrades for 2013.

This is the new Rav4 which goes on sale early in the new year:

Do you need a 4 by 4 ? If not have you considered the Nissan quashqai. High seating like the rav , top of the range has most of the toys. Quite good on diesel ;)

If you are buying new, have a look at the Opel Mokka that is due to the dealers this coming weekend.

1.7 4x2 SC is €23,995. Has everything you need as standard.
1.7 4x2 SE is €26,495. Full leather with heated seats and steering wheel (or so I'm informed)
    1.7 4x4 SE is €27,995.

Probably slightly smaller than the RAV and iX35 / Sportage, but has very decent leg room in the rear seats, but the boot is fairly small.

Mokka is more a rival to the Nissan Juke.

Nah - it's a Qashqai rival. While it looks fairly small in pictures, it's a lot bigger in the flesh.

Haven't been in a Juke, but I'd be very surprised if there is as much knee room in a Juke as there is in the rear of the Mokka. I have been in a Qashqai and it's on par.

For what its worth I will suggest the Skoda Yeti.

Similar to the Opel Mokka its on the small side of things compared to the IX35.
It is however very well built and a very good drive.

Frugal too, our AWD version is able to get by 50 MPG with ease.

(downsides being the styling is not to everyones tastes and I heard the model will be replaced in a couple of years).

That'd be a first. Are you sure?

Not sure which programme it was could have been fifth gear but think it was the Irish one - why you say that would be a first ?

Because the manufacturers pay them to review the cars.

Not much to choose between the sportage and ix35, qashqai would be 3rd choice. Are you trading in or selling private and buying for cash?
I only as because the trade in value / cost to change may differ considerably between models. Kia offered us the best trade in value by some way and hyundai the worst by some way. New car values where all roughly the same.

We where trading in a 10 reg qashqai against a new sportage / ix35 / qashqai.

I am trading in, not in a hurry so I might tax my car for three months. The new Rav4 should be available in February, so I would like to see it first. I heard the spec on it is very high, and its also a 2litre diesel, with a tax band of B. My best trade in price was with Hyundai, Kia were to call me back on price but never did. Got best price from Toyota on the present model. The Opel garage was also to call me to view the new Mokka, but no call as yet, oh and the Nissan garage was to call me back with price since last Monday, but still waiting.

You will be waiting along time for garages to call you back, if you want the best price you need to be sitting down in front of them.

Looked at the Mokka today, nice car but it looks very plastic looking on the inside.
