    Hi,

Am now the proud owner of a Triban 3, loving it so far :), I plan to commute on it some 12 miles each way daily and want to put some puncture resistant tyres on it. Had hoped Decathlon would do it for me but none in stock :( so gotta rely upon the kind people here to recommend me a budget option I can order online?

Can't really stretch to Gatorskins so hoping something exists thats more keenly priced? Also any advice on fitting etc much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    FBP.

I have these on my commuter - great tyre and had very few punctures. Fitted them no problem, for tight tyres there's plenty of advice on YouTube etc about working some slack when fitting tyres, also washing up liquid can help to easy on a tight tyre

I am a fan of gatorskins,
2500 km on Donegal roads with no punctures,
They not that expensive if you shop around online.....deals to be had.
You soon rue the few quid saved with less puncture resistant tyres whenever you end up stopping to fix punctures regularly..
    Been there......never again
Decent puncture resistant tyres well worth the money in my opinion....
Would advise you to wait a while and save the few extra quid..

It might be a bit above your budget but you can't go wrong with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24544 I've had them on 3 different bikes with in excess of 20,000 kms without a puncture. The peace of mind is great for me as I'm a keyholder so can't really be late for work.

PS - Gatorskins have poor grip in wet conditions.

I've Schwalbe Lugano puncture protected tyres, i've only done maybe 1000km on them and no punctures so far. I find the grip quite good although i haven't been out in any real wet weather yet.

I had Vittoria Rubino's on a commuter and did a few hundred km on them without any punctures. They roll really well too and are very grippy. Very easy to get on as well. and you can get a set for less than €30.

I have not found that to be the case in 3 years of riding them.

I use both Gatorskins and Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

Gatorskins on a sports bike and Marathon Plus on a hack.

Gatorskins are much lighter with less road resistance.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus weigh a ton but are bullet proof. All JC Decaux rental bikes in Dublin are fitted with these which would give some idea to their reputation of durability.

Schwalbe Durano Plus are a good option for puncture proof. Most of the puncture proofness of the Marathons, but weigh a good bit less (still a heavy tire though)

Rubino Pro are excellent too imho. €25 each from CRC. I got over 6,000km out of a set.
For when a heavier tyre will do, Panaracer RibMo are fairly puncture proof.

Have done about 2500km on a set of those and so far one puncture when bobbing around on a glass strewn cycle lane practising high cadence spinning (was a fairly big piece of glass). The wear seems to just about starting to show.

I had a set of those. Strange tyre. Never got a puncture with them but they seem to get seriously cut up. Mine were full of deep slits, holes and other defects and required almost daily removal of debris but they still kept going. Didn't want to tempt fate though so I went back to the Schwalbes.

Many Thanks for the input. I think I may well put the gators on, specifically because of the weight, Triban 3 is already 10+kg, just unsanctioned outlay of bike plus kit and I'm kind-of reaching a limit :).. Would I be mad to start commuting before changing them ? 12 miles each way, roads are UK country (ish) , good bit of cycle path ?

    Thanks again for input.

You will probably be grand. Just make sure you have a pump, tyre levers, a repair kit and a spare tube in your saddle bag and you're covered.
