Globesurfer III with external antenna

I have a Globesurfer III in our holiday home which gets occasional HSDPA coverage of ~1Mbps, but more often it's on EDGE with speeds more like this:

I have purchased a 24dB Yagi antenna with the appropriate MC-CARD pigtail connector for the Globesurfer which I'm going to install on the existing TV aerial pole, but I wanted to check first what kind of improvement it is likely to give.

The home page on the router indicated that without the antenna the signal strength was "Poor", typically around -107dB. Sure enough with the antenna connected I was able to get it up to "Good", somewhere around -84 dB. However the main thing is that with the antenna I seem to be able to get onto UMTS more easily, with these kind of speeds occasionally:

    Just a bit better :D

Hopefully I'll get a good line of sight from the aerial pole and be able to get these kinds of speeds regularly!

If anyone's interested this is the equipment I purchased from Wifi-shop24.com:

    24 dBi Yagi antenna (€45)
FME plug to MC-CARD plug (€7.50)
5m of UMTS Yagi cable with FME jack connectors (€16)

How did this work for you?

As I posted in the other thread I still have to finish off the installation - I've been drilling through thick external walls, etc. :)

Initial testing just holding the aerial and pointing in different directions indicate I can probably get ~6 Mbps download speeds with a good UMTS connection, which the aerial seems to help with. Typically without the aerial I can get ~ 1.6 Mbps download with a HSDPA connection. The signal strength details on the router status page definitely show a boost in the signal with the aerial as I mentioned above.
