hi, i got trvs installed in the bedrooms. I have other rads with no trvs. I have oil and a fire with back boiler. The boiler is on now so is the fire for about an hour. The rads with no trvs are barley luke warm. When we 1st tested the new setup the boiler was turned on and the the trv rads came on and turned off when the hit a certain temp but the old non trv rads were red hot . Id expect the non trv rads to be hot and if cold the boiler to stay on. The boiler is on now, but not running as if the water returned to it is hot but the non trv rads are cold so the water returning must be cold so why doesnt the boiler kick in??? Whats are happenin with installing the trvs?? any help appreciated. Pumber not around for a while

You seem to have an issue with the balancing of the system

A circulating pump will take the easiest path around the heating system.
To balance the system the hottest radiators need to be turned down in order for the pump to push the heat out to the further rads

Just to start turn off the hot radiators and get the cold ones heating. Then start turning the hot ones back on half way then making adjustments to the valves to achieve as good a balance as possible

This should be done on the lock shield valve side ie: the valve that can't be turned off by hand. But for testing the control valve will work just as well

If this doesnt work I would suggest your circulating pump is probably gone

Thanks for the response. Its like the rads are only being heated by the fire now. The boiler is on butnot kicking in. Earlier the the boiler was firing and only one rad was really hot on all the rest were warm like heated from the fire. But now the boiler is not firing at all and the house it heated from the fire only. could the boiler be air locked. When its on its humminng like a fridge but doesnt fire eventhough the water returned must be cold

Best thing to do is turn off the power to the oil boiler.

As kanji said you may have a problem with your oil boiler pump.

Or with your new information you may have a problem with your oil burner.

If you hear humming from your oil boiler/burner it sounds like something is stuck and not running.
If so it could be a simple fix like a new capacitor for the oil burner.
Sounds like you need a pro to investigate further.
