Thinking of buying a highish mileage c class merc, 2007 c200 CDI 110miles has a service history and seems very clean, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with these and would it be a good car to buy? I expect to do fairly high miles but don't mind driving it into the ground for say 2-3 years. Reliabilty not sell on value is my main goal, i realize car tax is quit high. Can pick it up for under 9k...

Wouldn't be the most reliable of cars...

Not a good start! I should also have said comfort is a goal and would prefer a premium type badge as I have had all the rep mobiles over the years and just fancy a change from the usual mondeo- avensis scene but don't want to be caught out with a turkey either :0)

Disagree about the reliability of these cars to be honest. As modern diesels go I think they are actually one of the better cars out there. My parents have had one for the past 4 years, has 198K miles on the clock now and never missed a beat. Outside of regular services in that time the only part that failed was the MAF sensor, which wasn't all that expensive a fix.
My brother has one too now, bought it after having owned a BMW 320d that absolutely broke his heart reliability wise even though it was well looked after. He's never looked back. Oh, and I really don't think 110k miles is high for these engines at all. I know a taxi driver in Limerick with over 350k miles on his!

Thank u kindly for ur reply!
Having done a bit of research they have a good reliability rep it would appear as high mileage diesels, servicing cost a bit higher but I can use local garage and cut that out as I don't mind nit having MB service history as sell on not important tbh. I don't think they are a car to be fearful of but like all brands one can be unlucky. 110k a bit above average but I hope it would have at least another 150k in it if it's looked after... I'll have another think, just thought it would be nice to drive a
Something a bit more upmarket if could expect it not to cause to much pain. Would not touch BMW tbh had a 320d in family and turbo along with various other issues caused major pain and money.

    I'm with Drummerboy on this.

    Run away!

I have no experience od the diesels but the petrols were an electrical nightmare.

OP, it is reliability and comfort you want then have a look at the Volvo S60 D5:

D5 engine is very reliable, a smooth 5 cylinder and Volvo have some of the most comfortable seats on the market, it will eat the miles. That one has a very nice spec too.
