Depending on the age of the tow car there are different regulations for the trailer, it's buried somewhere on the RSA site but someone has posted here I'm on a phone so can't search.

If you have your licence for more than 5 years you'll more than likely need to do the theory test. Yes you need a person who's had an EB licence for more than 2 years with you when towing.

No idea what's in the test as I got mine when I passed the artic. There will be a reverse and I think the rest is similar to the B test, apart from the turn about.

Del2005 spells it all out basically.

I'd suggest that you see previous posts on 'EB Licence' in the 'Learning To Drive' forum. Lots of good info there.

Btw, if you passed your B test before 1990 you are automatically entitled to add EB, EC and EC1 to your licence without any addition test(s).

    Surely that's wrong

People who passed their B driving test before the new (current) style licence was introduced in 1990 are/were automatically entitled to B/EB/EC/EC1 (and possibly A too?...e.g.my brother has all these categories and he only passed his B test - pre-1990). My first (provisional) licence was the fold-up type, I passed my B test in 1992. (C test in 2003...EC test up next!)

That was the way it was with the old fold-up paper driving licence...before the new EU rules began in 1990.

How could you get EC without C, you have to do a test for C before you can do the EC

Apologies, I was mixing up my categories...its late in the day!;)
    Pre-1990 drivers entitled to B/C1/EC1.

I think you are correct there.
(It has cost me c.€1200 to get C1/EC1/C/D1 on my licence!)
