    Hi all

I can't see where to post something like this, so I'm trying here. Looking to purchase a plug in guitar, just for messing around with recording, not gigging, but I don't know what is important to look out for. I also want to buy second hand and am wondering how much is necessary to spend, I'm not so flush and don't want to spend an awful lot. Any help from those in the know, or who have had good plug in guitars and can recommend, please do. All help welcome. Thanks!

Maybe call into the local music shop and ask there, or ask the next busker you see with an amp.

It's kinda a real-life thing rather than an on-line thing - your questions are fairly broad, but you may get some decent replies here too.

    Good luck anyway.

wot he sez.. but also; bother loads of shops first. have a play and a listen to what is available. see the price range and what you can get for what bobs you have. for e200, you wont get a top of the range martin but you might get something that ll keep you going till you win the lotto or whatever. make sure the guitar sounds alright not plugged in. if it sounds ****e in your bedroom when you re doing scales or practicing or whatever, you wont play it. have a gawk on sites like adverts etc to check price ranges of what is available second hand. if you re not confident enough to check one out on your own, get someone who knows what they re doing to check it out for you. always check out that the pick up is working. just cause yer man said it was working earlier..
you could also try one of those clip on pick ups on your own acoustic. never used one, but..
    happy hunting.

just because a guitar sounds good unplugged doesn't mean it'll be any good at all amplified.

and strangely, the opposite can apply too......

    cheap Takamines for instance.

I played one a while back that was APPAULING unplugged but pretty darned good plugged in! go figure!

anyway, my advice is to forget the pickup as an issue. find a guitar that you can play unplugged that sounds and feels great to you.

if it already has a pup, then you're laughing, if not, then you can mic it, or have a pup fitted.

I fitted a under saddle piezo for a friend, preamp, battery & strap jack. took nearly half an hour and cost under £30.

Sorry for taking the post slightly off topic but Martin, what piezo/pickup did you install?

    Thanks.

Thanks Martinedwards, that's exactly what I had before- a takamine. Thanks a million for the advice.
