Polish Dentists

This may have been asked before but why are there no Polish/East European dentists plying their trade in Ireland? They would drive down the price allowing the ordinary joe to be able to afford to see a bloody dentist.As it is now only the very rich and very poor(medical card welfare people) can access dentists when the wish.I can get a Polish plumber,electrician etc but not a dentist.Why?

Polish& Eastern European dentists do work in Ireland.
Just not at Polish& Eastern European prices.
It's a strange one.

A fair point. But why can your employer not employ a polish worker to do your job for a wage similar than that paid in Poland? or if you are unemployed why can the state not pay you the same welfare payment as received in Poland? An electrician doesn't have to pay rent, rates, wages, materials etc.

One of my closest competitors/colleagues is a Polish owned and operated clinic. I checked prices this week and they are slightly more expensive than me for every item that we have to display prices for.

People just want to give out about the price of dentistry before actually looking at what that price is. There are plenty of foreign run and owned clinics in Ireland, prices are generally the same as Irish dentists. Spending 60 euro a year on a checkup is not a big ask, after that about 40 euro a year on toothpaste, brushes and floss.

Are Polish/east european dentists qualifications recognized in Ireland or as i suspect their not so as to protect the cartel dentists have here.I brought my 5 year old to the dentist a few weeks ago for a checkup.The guy looked in his mouth and charged 50 euro.That's robbery.

You can get a polish from loads of places.

Oh right... There are loads of eastern european dentists around, they mostly work for the discount dental surgeries. Am not going to shill for one here, but I know of at least 2 chains in Dublin. Got a few fillings done, pretty cheap can't remember how much exactly. Also got a crown for e600.

Groupon were always giving away vouchers for the aforementioned chains...

You made the appointment, it's the same appointment as for an adult, appointment times are usually in 15min, 20 mins or 30 min slots. Your kid had a check up, diagnosis of any pathology present, probable oral hygiene advise, and you could have got that all for free with HSE dental clinicians.

There a loads of eastern European dentists practicing in Ireland as posted above many times, so that's answered your suspicions, they charge 50 euro to see your daughter also.

Shop around. Check the practice website for their list of fees, or ask the receptionist in advance what the fee is
Plenty of foreign dentists working in Ireland.
Some overheads (nurse/receptionist wages, rates, electricity, sterilised equipment, ect) are fixed, no matter what age the patient being seen.
You can find that often, practices will discount the fee if you yourself (parent) are a regular attender at the practice.
GP visits aren't far off, price-wise? And far more frequent than once a year;)
