Nissan Navara D40 clutch

What is the current wisdom regarding replacing the clutch in a Navara D40 (06)? Should I replace the dual mass flywheel with a solid or should I just fit a new dual mass flywheel and kit? 2 different suppliers have advised against the solid flywheel even though they could supply either. I have not gone near the main dealers lately

Can't speak for Nissan but Defender Td5 owners have fitted solid flywheels with no issues apart from gearlever rattle at idle.

However, Milners only supply DMF clutches for the Navarra which may be saying something. http://www.milneroffroad.com/nissan/navara-pickup/d40m-52005-2-5td/d40m-clutch

First clutch started slipping at 115000 km. Main dealer 'said out of warranty and clutch was wearing part and not covered anyway'. I did not know at the time that that the DMFs and clutches were giving loads of trouble. He said Nissan did not supply a clutch to fit the DMF but did a conversion kit, solid flywheel and clutch for about €1100. I located a spurious clutch and fitted it with the original flywheel. Another 100000 km down the road and I am slipping again. I had thought by now all Navaras would have solid flywheels

we have fitted 4 navaras recently with solid kits and very little noticeable difference, you may get a little more rattle at idle, one of the 4 had a little extra rattle at idle that was all

Clutch at 115k may not be too bad depending on use and abuse and just slipping would be a normal wear symptom on any clutch. Sounds like your DMF was fine and the dealer was trying it on. It still could be fine but but you wouldn't know until you spilt the box off, does it knock or clatter taking up drive?

I had to fit a new DMF to my Defender at 85k miles as it was debonding and cracking due to abuse by the PO. Suspect some are more prone to it than others and depends on driving style. I'm another 90k miles on and it's fine.

Brother in laws Defender 130 is still on it's original clutch and DMF at 225k km despite lots of heavy towing but he knows what the other lever is for and uses it! Suspect we might be changing it soon though.
