    2006 Focus ST3 - with Keyless Entry & Start

have an annoying problem at the moment, with the cold mornings upon us my car has been unable to start 4 times in the past week - it has managed to get going after being jump started but i know this is not good for the car or the ECU

the problem is more complicated though, i have had this relay clicking noise coming from the rear passenger side boot area for the past year, never been a problem to look into until now with the cold weather

only when the ignition is turned off and steering wheel locked the relay clicking noise begins, it could be tapping away all night, so im thinking with the cold weather and this constantly clicking away that its draining the battery

it was into an electrical specialist today and he went into the boot, located a control panel in the passenger side boot area and located a black box that the clicking relay noise was coming from, he said that the box controls the central locking etc, water had got in some how and dripped down onto the earthing wire. the relay box was fine and was not wet, no water damage to it, he checked all connections on it one by one and refitted everything

after all of this it was still ticking...

if he disconnects it, well then it obviously stops

then he went to the battery in bonnet, it showed that it was pulling 1.7 to 2 amps with the car turned off and steering wheel locked

it was drawing this power even if the clicking relay in boot was connected or not

he did mention that certain manufacturers cars like BMWs can take 50mins to enter sleep mode

upon checking about the focus st myself, it looks like it takes 30mins for the focus

it has to go back on monday where he will begin pulling fuses one by one, testing battery for drain and just repeating till he finds the right one which he says will narrow down where he has to look at

can anybody offer any advice, much appreciated ;)

your keyless entry module is goin fauty . its in the left year quarter panel, the battery drain is more thanlikely the ignition column micro switch , not the end of the world ignition module /around 400 ish same for keyless module get checked properly it will be one or the other

excuse the ignorance but is the ignition column micro switch contained within the keyless entry module in the left rear quarter panel?

so as it turns out it was the keyless entry module thats built into the drivers door handle. the little black square box built into the door handle. water had got in, relay box in boot was fine

just in case anyone else has a similar issue
