    Hi,
I finally got the beast but the shutter sound is a little weird - like its fragile ?

is this normal ? -- it doesn't sound like the 5d2 "thunk" .... not that I care
about the sound - I want good pics - but would hate to have gotten a faulty model that mirror falls of in 6 months....

Again I could be paranoid after dropping all that cash ....

    cheers..

Mine has a very satisfying snap to it. A bit beefier than the mkII I'd say. Are you sure it's not stuck on silent mode?

I think it sounds a little fragile as well. Mine works fine though and is probably normal!!

yeah , I checked on youtube and it seems normal which is fair enough ...
just the mk ii is more "bassy" ....

Then newer mirror is probably dampened more amongst other things which would change the noise of the shutter. Some models you can nearly make out the motor sounds which gives it a very electric sounds to it rather than a mechanical clunk.

Just got one myself, lovely camera. Compared to my 7D it does sound more fragile, more metallic somehow. But it seems to be normal behaviour. Also try it out in silent mode, sounds even more wimpier!

    There are sound samples here:
