Lanzarote Resorts for Famara Surfing

I'm planning a surfing trip to Lanzarote in a couple of weeks. The flights are booked, but I have yet to lock in accommodation.

We plan to surf in Famara so making use of free transfers to Puerto Del Carmen or Costa Teguise might be good. We also need to consider how we will get from the airport, with car rental being a little pricey.

I read on Wikitravel that the nightlife in Costa Teguise is a bit like Phoenix Nights, and generally it sounds a bit dingey. We're not planning any major clubbing or anything like that, but would like some nice restaurants and bars to visit in the evening if we so choose. Any Lanzarote tips greatly appreciated.

Costa Teguise is a lot quieter than Puerto Del Carmen, but still has some very good places to eat and there are some lively bars as well. It certainly isn't dingey. There is also some very good windsurfing there as well. The trick is to get a hotel nearish to the square/Las Cucharas Beach. There you will find good eateries and a variety of bars. Although there is the usual assortment of Irish and English bars, it isn't all union jacks and randy leprechauns. It is nothing like the Costa Del Sol for example.

PDC, from what I have seen, varies and you could end up in a good hotel in a decent area, or a dingey hotel in a mankey area, but it isn't Torremolinos and generally the standard on Lanzarote is pretty good.

I've taken the family to Costa Teguise four times in the last three years and really enjoy it, but that is with a young family. If you are a meat eater, I would highly recommend La Vaca Loca (the Mad Cow) Argentinian steak restaurant. The Argentinian BBQ is fantastic.

Both places will only set you back about €25 to get a taxi from the airport, so no worries there.

Thanks for that endorsement. I might lock in the place in Costa Teguise for the moment. The wonders of booking.com being that it's all flexible.

Definitely look for something close to the beach. The Luabay hotel area.

Email surfholidays.com and ask them. I have used them before for surf trips to Europe and they have always been good. They have a set up in Lanzarote but havent been there so cant vouch for it

Thanks. I've booked surfschoolanzarote.com which is run by an English guy. Looks quite good. Cheap transfers from Costa Teguise every day.
