Best way to upgrade to a Sky HD Box

Sorry if there has been a thread about this already but I couldn't see one.

I have an old sky plus box with a sky subscription.

I'd like to get a sky hd box so I can view the free to air hd channels and use on demand.

What is the cheapest way of the getting a sky hd box? Sky are quoting me a price of €250

    1) Could I try and cancel my subscription and hope to offer me a free box to stay with them? Has anyone any experience of this working?

    2) Could I buy a hd box second hand and just put my viewing into it? Would I be able to use on demand then?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's what I did. You will have to sign up for a new 12 month contract.

Loads of new and used boxes over on Adverts

Get one of those and ring Sky to have the card paired with the new box.

For "on demand" see here - page 8 onwards and there are a couple of other threads in the forum here about it.

    ^^^^^^^^ +1

That's exactly what I done...Picked one up from a family member, and a 3 minute call to sky and the card was paired.

Not a whole lot of FTA HD Channels though.
