    Hi guys,

Just wondering if any one had an idea what actually happens with Stolen bikes. Had a brand new one nicked today, was wondering if they end up getting sold on or cycled around by the scum who took it.

    Any ideas are welcomed.

You know the movie "Taken" with Liam Neeson? Replace the girls with bikes. It's the exact same scenario I'd imagine. Darkened rooms with the bike lit up in the centre under a veil with the bids coming in...

Oh right, so my poor bike will end up in the sex trade then, and might even die from a heroin overdose. poor thing.

Anyway, no smartarse answers, i was just seeing if they usually end up on donedeal or buy and sell or what, if anyone had experience of it.

Tossers buy them. If there was no resale there'd be no thefts in the first place.

I never said that. Who would use a bike for sex? Where is your head at?!!

Check the stolen bikes mega thread for info anyway.

Just for everyone's benefit here, please do not name specific locations, sellers etc. where you suspect stolen bikes are sold

OP I would suggest keeping your eye on online selling sites (Donedeal, Adverts.ie, Gumtree etc). Car boot sales are another option. I would imagine a lot do get sold on (particularly newer ones)

Check you local car boot sales and markets - I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be any more specific than that, as mentioning specific locations could result in unfounded allegations against honest sellers

Well hell, i would even contact honest sellers as i still need to get a new bike, so if you know of any place which would sell bikes that are failry cheap, it would help.

Try asking around your local bike shops. They will sometimes be offered stolen bikes. You might get lucky.

A mate is looking to track down his bike, was stolen in dublin a few days back, he's keeping an eye on gum tree, adverts, done deal, the usual spots, he's not from dublin so wounldn't really know where else to look.

It's a black and yellow and white Giant Defy (2 I think, 105 groupset?) and he uses it for commuting and spins and stuff, stolen from his shed in rathmines. Apparently there's a few bikes lifted in the area lately according to the Gaurds.

Anyway... if anyone was to, I dunno, pm me some places worth checking out in and around dublin, that would be just dandy :).

Guard's just doing a great job. The guard that arrived at my house on the morning I woke to find I had been burgled was very proactive.. He noticed one of my bikes online a couple of days later and set up a meet with the unfortunate burglar..

    Excellent.
So the second bike, I'm guessing the guard got that back from the same thief.
What's going to happen him, a day in court anyway I suppose.

Nice to hear someone getting their bikes back. That's a rare occurrence.
    Good job Gardaí.

Yeah, its good to hear that they do come back sometimes. The guards in my case said as it is close to christmas and my bike was actually brand new, only had 2.6 miles on it, that someone will probably sell it to a shop, and unless i have the number off it, wont help me. Beofre ayone says it, i picked up the bike and then had to go on a business trip for a few days, got back late 3 days later, then went right to train station. didnt really think of the number, until i came back on friday morning to insure it and found it stolen.
the shop i bought from also doesnt ever keep any serial numbers.
