Taxi - Fixed Fare

Just wanted to ask this amongst any taxi drivers or people who may know.

Is there a legal way to arrange a fare off the meter? I mean completely above board. I know a few will say 'A tenner to X' and it will be pure cash (Which is fair enough the odd time) But I'm wondering can you agree a fare with a driver and keep it above board for both? Is there a system in place for reporting fix fares for tax etc? Or do you have to do it by the meter?

For the record, I'm not a taxi driver or in any way affiliated. Its a general question out of interest.

The price on the meter is the legal maximum the driver can charge you.

There is nothing to stop you offering the taxi man before you get in the car, "will you take me to XXX for €10?"

You are still entitled to a receipt as that is how much the fare cost you, but dont be surprised if a taxi man says receipts are only on the full amount!

Yes it's possible once a waiver form is signed before the journey
