Dentures for a parent

    All,

I am wondering if any of you know the procedure in Ireland for a person to get a full set of dentures who is over 65 and does not have private dental care. Wondering would it be costly out of pocket or would the state cover some of it? I am living in the States but want to give my Dad (who is very scared of the dentist) the options which are available to him.

    Thanks in advance.

Does your father have a medical card?

If he has a medical card then it is pretty routine. He needs to attend a dentist who accepts medical cards, an application is sent to the HSE for dentures. Providing he hasn't had dentures provided by the HSE in the past five years approval should be granted. This process takes a few weeks. He then would not need to pay anything for the dentures.
