Hi I,m new to this site. My story is that I want to get into deer stalking, I dont have a clue as to what to do after the kill. I,ve never shot a deer before. I would love to be able to but some on the table at Christmas. I do have a .308. I was hoping/wondering if there is anybody on this site that might share some of their knowledge with me and let me tag along on a day. I live in Dublin but dont mind traveling. I do have a deer license and also have permission. I have been out stalking before although I did not get a shot off as I didnt feel confident enough to take it . Thanks for reading

Only started this year myself, but walked out last year with a few lads on thier stalks. All my hunting
this year has been accompanied by experienced hunters showing me the ropes on the various shoots I have had the opportunity to be invited on.
My first grolloching was over seen by a friend who is very professional in his own skills, I have processed many of his animals in my kitchens and was always impressed by his field dressing compared to that of others for whom I've processed for. This is where I would advise you choosing your mentor well. In fact get out with as many as you can and be willing to 'walk out only' ie without your gun, so that you can see different styles and interpretations.
Remember the job is not finished on the hill side, wiegh off storage for hanging and then butchering before you can get the meat to the Christmas table.

And after all the grolloching I have down I still can't get the Buck's dick and arse to come out like Davy Dunn has shown.
I'm not far off but it's still the hardest/fiddliest part of the grolloch for me.

Can I say a Big Thank You to all the people on Boards for all their help and replys to the add I put up a few days ago. Really Thank you SOooo much. Yesterday a pure gent of a man took me out, and after about 10 mins. I got my first shot ever at a deer. Heart shot..dropped on the spot. This gent then showed me how to field dress the deer . The knife that was used was my new John Reck Knife. Twas like a hot knife going through butter. The perfect knife ... Have a look at john,s knives on Boards yea wont be disappointed. Anyways after field dressing we hung her from a tree and went off to learn more . What to look for , What this means, What that means, What you should and shouldnt do. I have her hanging now and cant wait to butcher. So to sum it all up There will be deer on my table this Christmas and its all down to you guys here on BOARDS. Again thank you SOoooo much and Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks to the gentleman that helped the bunnystalker to pop his cherry on his first stalk so to speak.
man is just over the moon or more likely wired to it.
reckon im going have to pretend to listen to every little detail as it is told and retold when i get back to work.
again thanks for helping out so selflessly and showing a new hunter the ropes.
    good deeds are always rewarded.

o yeah, 100% truth, you are really lucky
most of lads here are willing to help, asking you where are you located? are you willing to travel? etc. But they only ask and that's it...
