Overtaxed in November

    Hi there

I received my payslip for the month of November, showing that I paid €1192.96 in PAYE and €649.07 for the universal social charge. This compares to 544.45 for PAYE in October and 240.47 for USC.

I rang the revenue commissioners to enquire and the staff member who took my call couldn't explain the large difference in the figures, so our payroll department determined based on the figures available to them, presumably taken from my p45 from issued by my previous employer, that I had underpaid in tax. The tax taken this month leaves me in a precarious financial state for the most expensive month of the year, and I don't know how to find out if the information issued by my previous employer was correct, or how the underpayment was calculated. Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how to check?

    Thanks

Do you have a copy of your final payslip and p45 from your previous employer? If so, all the figures should match. If they dont, then contact your old eemployer.
You can also use your new tax credit cert for your new job to compare credits and cut off point to see if they have changed somehow versus your final payslip and p45.

    Hi there
Thanks for the reply. I have the final payslip but not the p45 as my old employer's HR is based in London and despite repeated emails and phone calls i never received a copy , they just sent it directly to the revenue and I got notification when they issued me with a new tax certificate. I guess I'll have to get on to them myself !
