Myson oil burner problem.

Ran out of oil, got a refill today, bleed the system for air and it fires up but when I put the front panel back on it starts cutting out , back on , back off.

Take off the panel and all is well, panel back on and it's got the problem again.

So lack of air seems to be the problem?

    Service or what?

And if service what to look out for so as not to get ripped off.

Boiler is about 5 years old, no signs of black anywhere, a bit of a burner smell but not too bad, small amount of stains on the outside wall (Painted White) brownish after trying to start up today.

    Any ideas
    Thanks.

Sounds like you have a seal leaking flue gas, that is being ingested at the air intake (plenty of air when cover is off)
Look at the flue joint, the combustion door seal and the burner mounting flange.

Thanks, that sound exactly what is wrong with it, the exhaust (if that's the right term) exiting the wall took a bang off a van a while back, might have something to do with it.
Think i'll get a service done on it as it's been a couple of years.

If a standard service is about €80, what do you think I can expect all going well.
    €120?

Are you sure you bleed it from the correct place and not the pressure adjustment screw, touch that and you will through all out and could get the same effect, but at the end of the day you will still need a good service to put it right, insist your engineer has a Flue Gas Anyliser.

Hi Billy, I disconnected the fuel line and let about 1 L run out into a bottle, this has worked for me before.

Reconnected the line and ran the burner for about 5 minutes, the rads were warm and the fumes outside looked ok, then I put the front panel on and the on off, on off crap started, it would run for 4-5 seconds then off.

If he doesn't have an anyliser or doesn't use one, is it f off time?

Could this flue problem cause carbon monoxide issues?

You need to make it clear on first contact that you want a FGA used and do they have one, failing that find your local Oftec Engineer here........

    They have to have them.

    For sure...

I will call him in the morning and see if he does the FGA before he calls out.

PM'd the company name, seem above board.

Job done, very happy with the service, hadn't seen a boiler striped down that much before.
FGA done, pressure checked, nozzle/jet replaced, flue issue resolved.

Does oil and gas, well priced, will pm if anyone wants his number.

how much did it cost you in the end?

He done a clatter of work for well over an hour, lots of problems/new parts, less than €100.
Didn't ask what a normal service would cost but I'd say €75-€80.

Good value for money so can't argue with that
