Night people? People who work shift or vampires?

If people work they generally have things like debit and credit cards and can pay bills online 24hours a day. If its letter posting a lot of petrol stations sell stamps. Package sending? You will eventually have a day off to send it.

The Swords post office is open 7 days a week by the way just not at anti-social hours.

Is it just me, or is the quality of threads in AH in serious decline?

Some shops sell stamps and some post offices have stamp vending machines, and as said, post boxes are 24 hours.

I think the OP is onto something here. If we had 24 hour post offices, we could post drink to each other when the off licenses are closed (and Good Friday).

In most cases there isn't a substantial enough demand to support the costs involved. Dunnes and Tesco tried it in various places around the country but as soon as one gave up 24 hour opening in a town the other followed suit.

Lighting, heating, staff, security, it all adds up.

There is a 24 hour flower shop near where i live, London really does have it all.

AH is a constant disappointment. It has its moments, they make you think it's fun, and then you have all the mind numbing stuff and rabble rousing nonsense.
The place is like cigarettes. The odd fag is lovely, but terrible for you over a long period.

Post offices close lunchtimes - how are you going to get them to open 24 hours!!

My tesco has changed from 24hr to closing at 12. I can't think of any supermarket or newsagent near me that operates the same hours as a post office.

I think everybody here is taking the OP too literally with the 24hr bit, and not thinking of anything in between.

If they copped onto the losses they might be making due to their restricted hours they might change their mind. Just like all the other businesses obviously copped on opening outside of 9-5.30pm has hugely increased profitability. People might choose couriers instead, or e-cards instead of having to go get stamps, or order gifts online and have them sent via other countries postal system as they have no time to go to the post office during working hours.

We do not need every single one going 24hr, some can, just like pharmacies, petrol stations and the odd newsagent (or some pubs if they were allowed). They open to meet demand, like any other business who is interested in surviving.

Imagine the craic the post office workers would have when dozens of drunk idiots turn up to send letters/try to order chips after clubs close...

How do you know they're closed? Just because the front door is closed doesn't mean it's closed. There are other ways to get in.
