Applying for jobs you can't interview for until 2013?

I was just wondering whats peoples opinions are on this, for various reasons both personal and work related it will be almost impossible for me to attend interviews that I may get in the 32 days.

I done a job search last night as I am looking at advancing my career and came across 11 possible opportunities that I would like to apply for. However I know that if I do get a call back from them for an interview that it's 99% unlikely I'll be able to attend an interview until after the xmas/new year break.

So I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on applying for the positions and in the covering letter let them know that I am not available until 2013, would that acceptable or extremely off putting to human resources? Would I be better off just waiting until I have more free time and reassess the job opportunities then?

If you look at it realistically, most companies will probably stop interviewing for positions by the 21st and won't resume again until the 7th of January. So it's 3 weeks really.

Even then, interviewers may be reluctant to start an interview process after the 19th. Many people slow down a lot coming up to the Xmas break, especially if their company doesn't really trade over that period, and they're reluctant to start new projects or accept new work with Xmas looming because either they or other key resources will be unavailable for a lot of the following two weeks.

Agree with Seamus, I got a call about a job recently and had to advise I wasn't available until Jan for personal reasons and that was fine.

Depends on the job as well, if it's something that's going to get lots of applicants and they want it filled quickly then you've no chance, but if it's something that will take a while to fill you may.

Also could you propose doing phone interviews for the first one?

I'm afraid even doing phone interviews unless they are outside of office hours would be a struggle at the minute.

I agree with Seamus too, I guess I was more looking for an answer as to whether I put down my unavailability in a cover letter or leave it out and if I get a call back for an interview advise them then that I cannot do it until Jan?

Yeah, I'd probably go with the latter.

Putting it in the cover letter might cause someone to bin your application without reading the CV, but someone who thinks you're right for the job should be willing to waiting till January for an interview.
