D3100 is a far better camera and is £289 on amazon. About €355. I used to have the D3000 and upgraded to the D3100. Well worth it for the extra €50

Looks to be a good step up from the D3000. I just got one from Argos.

can anyone recommend the D3100 as a good starter camera for someone who has growing interest in photography? is the 18-55mm lens good also? I see you can get 18-105mm too (though not on argos site)..which would be better?

I was in the same boat about 18months ago and picked up the D3100 with 18-55mm lens.
No complaints, great piece of kit and very happy with photo results, the camera can do a lot more that what I am capable of but with time not on my side I use the "auto" functions a lot.
You''ll need a good bag also, I got a LowePro one from Amazon.
If there's still a cash rebate then for your reference what I got was a pre-loaded debit card but use it quickly because after 6 months they zeroised it with charges but it was only a few euro so I just took it on the chin and binned it.

No Argos are not selling the cam online. You can check online, if available you can block and reserve it but you need to go in person to collect in the store where you have blocked or reserved.

    Yeah it is 368.99€

My OH recently got into photography and after a bit of research got a D3100.
It's an excellent camera for starting off and she's very happy with the photographs it produces.
Pretty sure she paid more than €369 for it too.
The HD video it shoots looks pretty nifty too.

I never said they were selling online, i was just suggesting to check the price online instead of expecting everyone else to go check on their behalf.

Have been looking around for DSLRs at around the £300 price point and this seems to be the one to get. Any one have a feel on how prices may drop on this post Christmas. I note that a new model isn't out that often so perhaps they won't be too discounted. Just trying to figure if it is worth waiting till post Xmas before buying. For the sake of £30/40 I would buy before sales.

Lowepro Topload Zoom Mini is a great little bag and can be had very cheap on eBay if you don't mind waiting on delivery.

Edit: or for €24 from Portlaoise...
