Anomalous tooth - options??

I just went for a routine clean and polish 2 days ago and they took an x-ray, which showed an anomaly inside one of my premolars. Apparantly whatever's wrong with the tooth is very unusual (especially in premolars) and usually only seen where there was childhood trauma to the tooth or jaw (I've never had any trauma that I recall). Looks fine from the outside but the enamel is very thin on one side and it could fall apart and will if I leave it (but it's impossible to say when).

They sent me to a specialist, who told me I need a root canal and crown to save the tooth, as the crown is being eroded from the inside out and it is in danger of collapse. Problem is the root canal cost 800 squids and he says it may not even work as he won't see exactly what's going on inside the tooth until he opens it (and also due to the enamel being so thin). If the root canal works, I'll also need a crown. If it doesn't work, I'll have to get it extracted and then will need an implant (which costs a few thousand).

I'm not sure what to do cause I'm a student so can't afford any major treatments right now, but am quite vain about my teeth and am particularly concerned about having a gap in my teeth at the moment, as I'm getting married next summer. Are there any options in terms of getting an extraction and then a temporary 'cosmetic' crown that would tide me over for the wedding photos?:(

    Thanks for your help.
