Whats the best Austrian resort for :

decent level skiers , advanced boarders looking for off piste and decent nightlife

Had a look on crystalski and it seems hotels are way to go , no great when there is a group would prefer chalet , are chalet just a french thing ?

If we stayed in a hotel is there generally a common area where people can chill out

    My broken record starts again...

Saalbach. Love the place, ticks all the boxes for me. Don't really get Chalets in Austria - some in St Anton, but that's about it.

Are you just looking at hotels ? You can get apartments for pretty responsible prices. It wont be so easy to book one this late, but there are always options, you just have to look around and email a lot of people. Check out the Saalbach website, there is a ton of accommodation listed there.

advanced boarders looking for off piste

Off piste in Saalbach is limited and very timid, nothing over 30-35% pitches at best in all areas.

Yes off piste there is no much, but there are some challenging black runs, they have a FIS slope, not sure which one and black No. 14 is quite steep.

Overflow; one of the requirements was for off piste Saalbach has almost zero worth mentioning.

Black runs do not compare to skiing off piste. Groomed terrain is easy in comparison. Sometimes you have to recognize the limitations to the resorts you love.

This place seems good - a friend has stayed and said it was nice and it's very central. http://www.appartements-fuerstauer.at/en/
